Oh my sweet girl Denali! I met her breeder through Sitka's breeder and we became fast friends who love talking dogs and I knew pretty quickly I wanted to be on her list for one of her pups. The day came that she called and said she had bred ... get this ... Fabio (I'm not kidding and he totally deserves that name!) and Dilly and asked if I wanted to be on the list for a girl. I didn't hesitate. 8 weeks later I found myself flying to Chicago, renting a car and driving out into the middle of nowhere beautiful farm land Indiana to her lovely home where I was greeted with an amazing herd of white balls of fluff - big and small! I felt right at home with all of her big dogs everywhere and the puppies basically having the run of the house where she and her husband just love and dote after all of their fur-babies!
I had my pick of the girls and boy it was a hard decision, but the little yellow girl just kept catching my eye and I just felt a strong connection with her. So after several hours, off I went back to Chicago, overnight in the hotel (that didn't really allow pets) but I thought "it's just a little pup and she was super good in the car, hardly made a peep ... so we'll be fine!" Boy oh boy - that girl had some lungs on her. She absolutely was not having it being in the kennel ... I broke down pretty quickly and plopped her on the bed and what do you know - snuggle city and not another peep!
That is I guess what started her and my love affair with each other! She is 100% my girl and I am her person for sure! She is one of the happiest dogs on the planet. Always in a good mood, usually wagging her tail, loves eye contact and has this funny little "grunt" that she does to get my attention and as soon as I look over at her she gets so happy and starts talking! She has a super cool goofy personality that just cracks me up. She loves toys, however is very partial to balls (but not in an drive at you abnoxious way - she just loves to hold them!) ... but she is pretty specific about them and when she's got 10 balls to choose from if the ONE she wants is under the couch ... she will definingly let us know that a ball needs rescuing! One of her most favorite toys in the WORLD is her giggle ball (well and the poop emoji toy until that got destroyed from one of the other dogs). I can pretty much coax her into doing anything if I bust out the giggle ball and use it as a trade! She will hold her toys in her mouth (sometimes from just her front little teeth!) for a looooooonng time and has even been know to fall asleep with a ball in her mouth ~ LOL!
She's not a large dog, she's actually quite compact ~ but the perfect size in my opinion. I often refer to her a my little quarter horse ... kinda short and stocky - but man is she athletic and can MOVE! She loves the water (I feel like this is a reoccurring comment with ALL of our dogs - lol!) and loves to lounge in her baby wading pool with her head flopped up on the rim ... looking like quite the princess! She is also one of my office dogs and loves to visit with clients in exchange for cookies! She loves to put her paw on your arm or leg when you're petting her as a sign of affection and a big time snuggle bug. Lord help you if you don't get into bed first ... that girl likes to spread out! She is an amazing mother and her first litter in 2022 was nothing short of spectacular and we are thrilled to see how her other future litters turn out. Our girl Grace, is her daughter and was our pick of the 2022 litter.
She is a carrier only of the GR PRA 1 genetic disorder, which means that she carries of one of the two PRA recessive disorder genes. In order for it to affect her offspring , both copies (PRA 1 and PRA 2) of the mutation need to be passed off to her puppies in order for the disease to manifest. By being a carrier only, she can pass on either the normal or mutated gene to her offspring but they will only possibly have the one copy of the disorder not both and therefore not be affected. If 2 carriers are bred (which we would NEVER do) there is a 25% chance that the puppies would develop symptoms of the GR PRA1 or GR PRA2.
Don't miss our Friday night Facebook Live events! After the puppies are born, we will host a Facebook Live event every Friday at 6:00 pm Alaska Standard Time for everyone to tune in and see the puppies!
